Summer is in full swing here on the island. We hope most of
you were able to take in the phenomenal fireworks display both from our own
little island and those of you on the west side were also treated to several
displays from Miami.
The concert at Tristan and Isolde park was a huge success
and we thank country singers Wild Orchid and Jake Talbot for their
performances!
Speaking of music, be sure and check out the interview of
our own Nicholai Valentino in this edition. Home from his world tour with the
legendary Pink, he’ll be performing at both the Plaza and Surfside this summer
with his band Valentino-West.
And can I just say, that is one group of men you don’t want
to miss!
The final papers have been signed transferring ownership of
The Royal Movie Theater in town square to one Kayden Drax. The property long
held by the Tarasios family has been closed since last year’s storm damage, but
the plans now are to restore the theater to its original art deco style and grandeur.
Mr Drax told me personally at the fourth of July festivities, he wants to bring
the theater up to a standard that will match the park now that construction
there is completed. He wants to lure some of Hollywood’s elite to premier their
movies at the historical theater and is even discussing the possibility of
running an annual film festival not that different from that in Cannes each
year and wouldn’t that be exciting!
Here on the Key we locals have become used to celebrity
sightings, but the idea of having the world’s attention for a week every year…
well some of the Key’s residents may not be happy with the idea, but this
reporter thinks it could be a wonderful happening!
